DIY Lip Scrub

Hey guys, today’s DIY would be the recipe for the lip scrub I have been using to achieve those luscious supple lips. I know some of you are wondering “which one is lip scrub again”? I also thought the same when I first heard about it but my dear ones, once I started and saw results, I’ve been hooked.

Lips scrubs are used to exfoliate the lips, that is, remove dead skin to reveal newer fresher one. Just like the skin all over the body, the lips also need some TLC (but yes to scrubs this time ;)). The lips need care, protection from the sun, moisturizing just as much as the rest of the face. The lips have just 3-4 layers of skin while other areas have up to 12 layers so it is more prone to injury. Scrubbing is a way to improve the texture and even lighten your lips.

I would be sharing my current favorite lip scrub recipe which is the Brown Sugar Scrub.

The ingredients needed are Brown Sugar, Lemon Juice and Almond Oil

Brown Sugar:

This serves as an exfoliant. It smells wonderful and helps condition and moisturize skin and protect it from toxins. Sugar contains of glycolic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid that is crucial for maintaining healthy skin and is usually a key ingredient in many high end products. See this as a way cheaper substitute with added sweetness. Brown sugar crystals ar gentler than white sugar which makes is safe to buff dead skin away and prevent moisture loss.

Lemon Juice: lemons-300x275

This could be the freshly squeezed one or the packaged 100% lemon juice you can find in stores around you. Either way you only need a few drops. As we all know, lemons are very good for the skin, packed with Vitamin C which helps in collagen buildup. It also contains citric acid and various phytochemicals which acts as antioxidant and fights free radicals. Lemon is also a natural bleacher so if you are hoping to lighten your lips, this additive would help you achieve that over time.

Almond oil:

This is loaded with essential vitamins for beauty, Vitamin A, D, E. It is an excellent moisturizer and also lightens the skin over time. It helps soothe dryness and peeling lips it also has a calming soothing effect on inflammation and protects the skin from the sun.

Combine 2tbsp Brown sugar with 1 1/2 tbsp Almond oil in a container.

Mix until smooth.

Add a few drops of lemon juice (1/2 tbsp).

Mix till desired consistency is achieved.

The consistency should be something like this

You can cover it and keep for next usage. It lasts like forever and you can make as much as you want and store in a cool dry place. I’ve had mine mixed for close to a month and it’s still good as new.

APPLICATION: You can use you hand or an old toothbrush or a baby toothbrush by dipping into container and gently rubbing on the lips (you don’t want to be too vigorous). Leave on for about a minute before rinsing off with water.

I love to apply coconut oil on my lips after scrubbing and the results are just amazing. They look plumper, redder and feel softer.  I do this every other night.image

That’s all I have to share with you for now. Do drop in comments on what you think about it and if you would wanna try it. I strongly recommend it. Till next time guys.

You know I’m awesome, xoxo.
