Hello dear readers, as much as we are advised to “Love our lines”, stretch marks are still a big deal in skin care and can affect the overall self-confidence of both men and women. Stretch marks occurs as a result of sudden weight loss or weight gain that stretches the skin. The stretching causes the middle layer of the skin to tear, allowing deeper skin layers to show through, forming stretch marks. Continual tugging and stretching such as in pregnancy can also lead to stretch marks. Corticosteroid creams, lotions and pills can cause stretch marks by decreasing the skin’s ability to stretch. Basically it is a sign that the skin has reached its elastic limit.
I want to introduce you all to an awesome scrub I put together a little over a year ago. I was using a body lotion that gave me some stretch marks on both of my hips and buttocks. One day I was scrolling through the comment section of an ad on Instagram for some dark spot removing product and there was a discussion going on whether or not these products work or if they are worth the risk. A user dropped in the recipe for this scrub and I decided to try it. It worked like magic. The marks I got were these dark stretch marks and they all faded without leaving a trace.
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup pure honey
1/2c Castor oil
-Add a cup of brown sugar into a clean bowl.
-Combine with half cup of honey till it mixes completely.
-Squeeze the juice of half a lemon into the mixture or you can use 3-4 tbsp of lemon juice.
-Add the castor oil and mix till it has a smooth consistency.
-Store in an airtight container.
USAGE AND STORAGE
For maximum effect, use every single day. At least, that is what I did and I saw results. All you need to do is apply to the affected area and scrub properly while in the shower. Rinse off and repeat the next day and the day after until you notice a change. This mixture should last about a month. It is key to keep the scrub away from heat because the sugar could melt into the oil and honey and you are left with a liquid mess. Keeping it in the fridge isn’t ideal also because if there isn’t constant electricity, frosting and defrosting can make it melt.
This mixture can be used for both stretch marks and dark marks, scars, etc all over the body. I never tried to use it on my face anyways. After scrubing, a little almond oil or coconut oil to the area helps it heal and also lightens the area. In no time, your Stretch marks and scars would be history.
What are the pros and cons?
-Easy to make
-Mild on the skin
It is said that prevention is better than cure. Keeping a healthy diet of a good amount of fruits and vegetables ensures healthy elastic, supple skin. Water is your friend. Drink lots and lots of water daily as this helps strengthen your skin, shea butter and coconut oil are also essential in prevention of stretch marks especially for pregnant women. Always always keep these by your side.
Okay dearest readers, that’s all I have to share with you for now.
You know I’m awesome, xoxo.
