Hello lovely readers!! On the 19th of March 2017, I was oppurtuned to have my first snapchat takeover ever and it was such a delightful experience. Naijabestmua which could be paraphrased to ” Nigeria’s best makeup artist” is a platform created by a fellow makeup artist Lhidiastanley as she is known. It is like a snapchat outlet of an instagram page of the same name owned by some other people where works from different Nigerian makeup artistes are showcased to the whole world. The Snapchat handle which Lhidia manages is taken over by different makeup artists daily and makeup tutorials are done, tips are shared, questions are answered, its basically makeup heaven over there everyday. I reached out to the her and showed my interest in taking over and I was booked for the 19th of March. I created two looks and it was an awesome experience. My initial plan was to do three looks, two models and one on myself but there wasn’t enough time so I didn’t end up making myself up. Here are some behind the scenes and highlights of the takeover.
I chose my friend Tega as my first model. I decided to do a traditional bridal look on her. I gave a Gele (headtie) tutorial also and honestly, it rocked. It was well received and I’m glad a lot of people learned a thing or two. I honestly didn’t know what exact look to create at the beginning of the tutorial. I just went with the flow and tried my best. A glitter cut crease and red lips was a trendy, yet classic look for a traditional, Nigerian bridal inspo.
Brows: I used Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in “Dark Brown” Davis Pencil in Color 3 and La girl Concealer in Medium Beige to clean out brows.
Shadows and Liner: I used Nuban beauty Palette for the eyeshadow. Wetnwild Megaline Liquid eyeliner for the wings, Inglot amc Gel liner to thicken the liner and Mabrook eyeliner pencil for the water line.
Lashes: Pearl Luxury Strands in Sultry Eyes.
Skin Prep: Palmer’s cocoa butter facial moisturizer, Nivea Men Post Shave Balm, Elf Shimmering Facial Whip and primed face with N07 Beautifully Matte and Mac Fix+.
Complexion: Mary Kay Medium Coverage Foundation in 500, La girl pro concealer in Medium Beige to highlight, Sacha Buttercup setting Powder to set concealer and Milani Mineral Powder all over the face to blend.
Highlight and Contour: Sleek contour Kit in dark was used as powder contour and Bh Cosmetics contour and blush palette to deepen contour and for blush. Anastasia Beverly hills glow Kit was used to highlight.
La girl lip liner in “Cherry”. Mac Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo.
For this look, I chose one of my favourite muses Sandra. I wanted someone with dark skin and those unique model features for this look as it was going to be an editorial look. I decided that I was going to showcase some of my editorial makeup skills in order to do something different because bridal and regular beauty or glam looks are the norm in most takeovers. Just like the first look, I just went with the flow and this was actually good because spontaneity is the spice of life and editorial glam is all about spice. I had these amazing purple lashes I’ve been dying to use and I saw this as the perfect opportunity so I built the whole look around it and came down with a PURPLE RAIN!
SkinPrep this is the most important part of the editorial look. The skin has to be gotten right. Think dewy, hydrated, glowy, natural and of course GLOSSY. Model gotta be looking like she just walked out of a magazine page. When that is gotten right, we can build anything else on top of it. The only rule in this game is blending. Let your creative juices out!
Moisturizer: palmer’s Cocoa butter moisturizer + shea butter and massaging it into the skin.
Primer: Elf Illuminating Primer in Radiant Glow and Elf Shimmering Facial Whip with mac Fix+ all over the face.
Complexion: Zaron Face palette Cream to Powder foundation all over her face for that sheer natural coverage. Mac Conceal and correct pallete in dark to color correct and face powder from zaron face palate to set and blend.
Brows: Yangabeauty browlutions eyebrow pencil, Hegai and Esther Eyebrow pomade and Mac conceal and correct palette to clean out eyes: Elf felt tip eyeliner pen in “Midnight” to line eyes, Salon effects lashes in “Purple Flight”
I applied a heart shaped confetti-ish collage on the left side of her cheekbones and temple using the zaron lash glue, then I used a pressed glitter from Uberchicville in “Dark Knight” to fill in the crevices between the confetti for that glittery purple and black effect to complement the color scheme of the lashes.
Makeup forever Flash Palette was used to color the lips and I layered the middle with a random purple glitter to highlight and marry the whole look.
I had so much fun creating these looks and got loads of positive feedback. Looking forward to my next takeover.
You know I’m awesome,xoxo
