Hello dear readers. I’m going to be doing a review of few products I picked out from Shea Moisture few months back. Many naturalistas would know about the product line as the brand is mainly into natural hair products. They also produce natural skincare products.
Last year they made a huge wave in the Nigerian market by bringing their brand in as Shea moisture Nigeria. They partnered with different personalities in the beauty industry and organised lots of interesting forums and trips. I happened to attend one last year which was termed the “Shea Moisture Masterclass”.
It was held in November 2017 at the Oriental hotel. Lots of personalities were at the event and I got to learn a thing or two.
In total there were four products, I bought two and the other two (or 1 and half lol) were given along with a goody bag for all those that purchased an item at the class.
I purchased this from their stand because I had run out of a deep conditioner. It retailed for 4800NGN. It is a rich masque used in the essential deep conditioning step in natural hair wash day routine. It contains shea butter, peppermint and apple cider vinegar. These three powerful ingredients leave no question to the potency of this product. I had been using a different formula of the same product which contained sea kelp and argan oil and I knew this would be just as effective. It smells just like the leave in conditioner of the same contents which I used the year before and talked about in my natural hair product haul post. It softens the hair, makes it stronger and richer.
Consistency and Formula: It has a thick pasty consistency and smells lovely
I honestly hadn’t heard about this product up until when I saw it on the stand that day. I had only tried shea moisture skin product once about 4 years ago when I used their black soap for my face and experienced break outs from using it. Ever since then, I have been wary of using their skin products. But now that I’m more skincare savvy, looking at this product just made me know instantly that it would be very beneficial. It is specially made for blemished skin, contains tea tree oil and tamarind extract and african black soap. I had some blemishes when I got the product and it has honestly been helpful. It retails for 5800NGN
Unlike most masks, it has a rather creamy, light formula that doesn’t dry out. It’s almost oily and this scared me a bit on my first use. If you are looking for that clay mask effect, this isn’t the face mask for you. But trust me your skin feels way smoother, plump and glowy after every use. Its almost like using a sheet mask. It smells super amazing with its greyish blue color and dries into a dark blue. It also has this permanent cool temperature along with an invigorating sensation when applied to the face. It helps soothe break outs, clears up spots and correct textural irregularities with prolonged use. I really do not regret the purchase.
Usage: I use it once a week. I won’t recommend as an overnight mask cuz it could get messy and it’s m a bit oily so it might make u produce more oil. Almost like u left a heavy coat of cream on ur face overnight. Leaving it on from 10mins to an hr max is fine by me. It is easy to rinse off.
3. Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Hydrating Body Lotion.
This is one lotion that literally changed my outlook on body care. It came with the goody bag free of charge though I believe it retails for 5800NGN and I begun to use it while I was in nysc camp. It is a perfect hydrating lotion which does exactly what it claims. It is a blend of shea butter, frankincense and myrrh, coconut oil along with several other oils. It is excellent for dry skin. It is paraben free, sulfate free, no mineral oil and it is also cruelty free.
I used the whole bottle for 3 months and my skin has never been smoother and more even. This product gives your skin that healthy look and it’s goodbye to ashiness. Through out the hamarttan season, this was my plug.
Consistency and formula
It has a strong emollient properties with a buttery consistency that is sure to prevent transepidermal water loss. All ingredients are organic and it has a soft fragrance which is from a blend of essential oils.
Usage: Use daily after taking a shower to lock in moisture and hydrate the skin. PS- it is made for dry skin but great for all skin types. For best results, apply on damp skin.
These two came together in the goody bag as a sample. The lotion was a sample version of the full size that was given and the body wash was the wash of the same make as the lotion. The sample could make up to four baths and it was rich, lovely fragnance but not too intense and left your body clean and soft.
I honestly do not regret trying any of the products. My favorite has to he the Lotion cuz it really surprised me with the results. It was something I intended to just try for a week or so and maybe in between empties of my regular lotion but I found myself using it for 3 months straight. It really was amazing. I am still enjoying my clay mask which is also a fave. Quick fix for glowing skin any day.
I hope you all enjoyed this review. Would you be trying any of these products?
You know I’m awesome, xoxo.
